Women's Islamic University
|
The struggle against illiteracy
and ignorance requires patience and dedication. Saba Aslam Education and
Welfare Trust believes education is a right and an obligation for all, and endeavors
to provide opportunities for basic education to many Pakistani children who either
can’t afford tuition fees or supplies. Saba Trust works with other national organizations
to help transform Pakistani society through education.
The Women’s Islamic University was conceived as a full-fledged
university for ladies where the most modern disciplines will be taught in an Islamic
environment. The project was initiated and is overseen by the Foundation of the
Faithful (FOF), a non-profit organization incorporated in Texas, New York, and Pakistan.
During the last few years, a 2 1/2 acre plot in Islamabad was procured for the university
site. Saghir Aslam of the Saba Aslam Trust was the first individual to visit the
proposed site in 1997, when there was nothing but tall grass and boulders there.
He was not discouraged by the sight, but could imagine a future institution at that
location which would help improve education for women in Pakistan so as to strengthen
the country’s educated class. He became the first donor and provided a substantial
sum to help begin work on the initial structure for the university. A tall building
covering 40,000 square feet now stands where once there was a desolate field.
Admission to undergraduate classes have now begun. Young ladies in Pakistan and
well as Muslim girls from other countries including the U.S. can enroll in the university
to earn a valuable education in a safe, Islamic environment. Majors and courses
cover topics such as Information Technology, Modern Languages, Social Sciences,
Fine Arts, Biological Sciences, Islamic Learning and Education.
The next phase of development includes the building and furnishing a 125,000 square
foot structure to develop a library and labs, the establishment of funds to pay
tuition for less fortunate students, and to hire more instructors as enrollment
increases.
Saba Aslam Trust continues to support this much-needed institution in Pakistan on
an on-going basis.
