Wisdom House
|
|
The struggle against illiteracy
and ignorance requires patience and dedication. Saba Aslam Education and
Welfare Trust believes education is a right and an obligation for all, and endeavors
to provide opportunities for basic education to many Pakistani children who either
can’t afford tuition fees or supplies. Saba Trust works with other national organizations
to help transform Pakistani society through education. |
|
Wisdom House, established
in 1994, is a rural girl’s high school/college located in Channan, Pakistan. The
full title of the institution is Women’s Institute for Studies, Discipline, Objectivity,
and Motivation, hence “WISDOM.” |
|
In rural areas, the public view is
not in favor of education for women. for example, the literacy rate in this region
of northern Punjab where Wisdom House is located is less than 10%. Financial resources
are scarce and female educators are not readily available. Consequently, it was
a tough decision to establish Wisdom House in such an area, but by the grace of
Allah(swt) the institute has become a unique success story.
|
|
Wisdom House began with a small number
of students. Within seven years, the number grew to twelve hundred students, and continues to grow year by year. Exam results have been excellent.
During the last four years, Matric class results remained 100% with 95% or above achieving first
divisions.
|
|
As qualified female staff is not available
in the immediate neighborhood, Wisdom House transports all teachers from nearby
towns. A sizeable transport network exists for students as well.
|
|
Wisdom House is providing computer
learning facilities to all students from grade four and above. Qur’anic learning
and Islamic teachings are an essential part of the curriculum and great emphasis
is placed on moral and courteous behavior.
|
|
Since August 2000, the school has been
upgraded to Intermediate College and FA/Fsc classes are in progress. With Allah’s(swt)
blessings, it is hoped that within the next few years, Inter College will become
a Degree College.
|
Wisdom House has been constructed with
the financial support of the Punjab Education Foundation and Muslim philanthropists
abroad. Saba Aslam Trust has consistently supported the project since its inception
through its various phases of development and growth.
Though much has been achieved in terms of academics and building structure, a lot
more work is needed. A separate college block, a masjid, a conference hall and a
separate administration block are some of the needs to be addressed in the near
future.
