Teachers Incentive Program
The Teachers Incentive Program (TIPs) is an innovative, cost-effective and affordable way to improve education in Pakistan. The program was initiated by Qasim Bajwa and Saghir Aslam. Considering the rapidly deteriorating situation of education/ literacy in Pakistan, a pilot project was launched in 1998 at Khewra, District Jehlum, Pakistan, to improve education by utilizing the existing infrastructure (i.e., the local government schools). Initial results have been very encouraging and Saba Aslam Trust encourages more entrepreneurs to try this approach on their own. The cost is affordable for an individual or a small group of supporters.

The main goals of TIPs is to ensure that classes are taught regularly, that the curriculum is followed and completed by teachers, and that the standard of education is increased. A local, trusted educationist is selected to lead the project, and that person is responsible for forming a Local Education Committee (LEC) of like-minded individuals to run the project. A budget is established and a school that is willing to participate in the project is identified. The project is explained to the school Headmaster and the voluntary participation of the teachers is secured.

To motivate the participants, an amount of Rs. 500 ($10) per month is provided as an honorarium, out of which Rs.100/ mo. is given to the Headmaster in charge of the school and rupees 400/mo. is given to the participating teacher. LEC staff members monitor the school for academic progress, cleanliness, and confidence and character-building efforts, along with basic religious knowledge

To run a program for ten teachers, one needs about $3,150 for one year. This will improve the quality of education of approximately 360 students for the entire year and will also provide relevant training to ten teachers. The cost per student per year is only $9.00!
This initial experiment was performed in collaboration of Society for International HELP and Tameer –e- Millat Foundation of Pakistan. If you like the program, we encourage you to start it on your own in a village or town you know of. If you like the concept but cannot do initiate such a project but would still like to donate to the program, please send your donation to:
